Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy !

Hi, I'm Les Draper Eames. I have been working as a hypnotherapist since January 1987. Hypnotherapy and psychotherapy for me go hand in hand, it is much easier to work through problems of any nature using hypnosis as a basis. Metaphysical or Spiritual Awareness counselling is also a big bonus working together with these other skills, plus I always send Reiki Healing while you are in hypnosis, if you are happy to receive it.

Please  check-out Spiritual Awareness Counselling
for Metaphysical, Spiritual Awareness and for information on Reiki Healing  which are sections of their own - I just find I can use them all at the same time to great client advantage.

From 1977 - 1987 I worked as a nurse for mentally handicapped people. As a ward sister in the final three years of a ten year stint, I became very stressed  out (as did we all !! Not enough staff for the number of patients, of course...) and when the top boss said to us: "If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen" I couldn’t believe my ears !! I decided to do just that - we were never given the respect we deserved. They lost a damned good nurse!

After some research on the best hypnotherapy courses and colleges, I trained with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy which is based in Nelson, Lancashire, England and escaped from that kitchen !

As a kid I had only ever wanted to be a psychiatrist, but what I do - I believe - is much more beneficial than that. Hypnotherapy does not use drugs although it can be induced using relaxants. Psychiatrists believe it’s the only option. I just gently talk people into hypnosis, easy as that ! No pendulum swinging necessary !

If you would like to contact The National College, their web address is:  www.nrhp.co.uk  or 'phone 0800 161 3823 for a much fuller and possibly more easily accessible therapist to yourself. Not all good available therapists are listed, only full members, but Associate members are well qualified and trained in psychotherapy too.

Please note that at the moment still, anyone can read a book and go into practise - there is no legislation in the UK. PLEASE find a reputable therapist, if they do not feel right to you, please avoid.

Always compare prices, as recently I have found some outrageous fees being charged. NEVER sign up for a prolonged course of sessions at your first consultation or before you have had time to think if it the right course of treatment for you. do not sign away any rights that you were offered such as a money back guarantee.

Anyone offering that has no handle on the work, by the way, as you cannot guarantee anything as when you are working with someone's subconscious mind. It will do what it it wants when it is ready and only then. You can only give it ideas and it will work on them in it's own time.

Do not sign something when you are totally relaxed following a treatment, as the cares of the world can seem far away when you first come out of hypnosis. I am very unhappy about a few practises I have been made aware of during the past 2 weeks, which are totally unethical.

Please take care in your choice, but know that good therapists are caring, loving people who are really interested in helping you. Often they have suffered from these problems themselves, which is why they chose to learn how to help others to cope in the first place. I certainly have, so I know where you are coming from.

Hypnosis !

Hypnosis comes from the Greek word for sleep "hypnos" - and this has given the impression that when you’re in Hypnosis that you’re totally asleep and unconscious and have no control over your own actions.

However, in the lovely relaxed state of deep relaxation that is the Essence of Hypnosis, you are fully aware of everything that is going on around you. You can hear every word that is being said and if you really don’t like it, it will bring you out of hypnosis!

You may find yourself drifting in and out but you are there through your own choice and you CANNOT have your mind controlled. It is a totally voluntary state and you can leave it whenever you choose. You cannot be "made" to do things but helped to do something that is in your nature to do, for your own Higher Good.

On the rare occasion, the Client / Therapist relationship can become blurred, which is of course, TOTALLY UNETHICAL. This is NOT as a result of hypnosis however, but owing to the  natures of the two people involved, their needs, emotions and wants. If you feel uncomfortable with a therapist, do NOT continue with the treatment, give fair notice and look for someone else to help you.

What does it feel like?

You may feel as if you are stuck to the seat and very heavy, though some people feel as if they are floating in the air and be enjoying it so much that they feel as if you don’t want to "come back" ! You can’t get stuck in hypnosis though, and if there was an emergency, you’d be back to full awareness, without a problem ! Even one word out of place will bring you up from the deeper relaxation.

Also please know that you will not reveal secrets that you would not normally have discussed. People tell me their secrets before going into hypnosis, only if they so choose. You are in control !! You are safe in the hands of a qualified therapist, but always check qualifications carefully.

Hypnosis gives better access to what’s going on in the sub-conscious or unconscious part of the mind. It helps bring repressed feelings to the surface so that you can start to express that feeling, resolve it and let it go. It can get you right down to the root of the problem so you can understand it’s origins so you don’t have to go there again.

It is hard to say how many sessions it will take, because everyone is so different, but it is much fewer than many conventional counselling forms. If you stick with it, you will find ease to your problem, but you need to practice the deep relaxation ! Remember, miracles can and do happen, but they can take time !

A therapist can only help you to come to terms with your own tiny demons (of which we all have many !). The therapist cannot do it for you. It’s you doing the changing for your own self. You can’t do it to fit someone else’s needs or requirements. Therapy helps you to become who you are, not who someone else wants you to be.

If you are trying to change for someone else, it won’t work, guaranteed. Well, not for long, anyway. Consequently, it’s a waste of your time and your money. Once you can feel more calm and relaxed with just being yourself, you feel more confident in all your dealings with other people, at work, home or out socialising.

STAGE HYPNOSIS !

This is repeated under the Stage hypnosis Err Hum... page.

Hypnosis is a state of altered awareness or consciousness and in this state your mind is much more open to accepting positive ideas or suggestions that are going to be of use to you. Now, “What about stage hypnotists?”, you ask! People do all sorts of daft things when they go on stage!

There was a program on Channel 5 some time back(19/5/4) about the dangers of stage hypnosis and I truely believe that it should be banned. A therapist works with people for some time talking to them prior to hypnotising them, but you cannot tell what lurks in the Pandora's box of a person's mind. To hypnotise and ridicule people cannot be an acceptable way for any person to behave towards another.

Those people have chosen to go on stage in the first place and they know that the stage hypnotist is bound to make a fool of them. If you go on stage, you are choosing to act the goat, so you must enjoy that in front of a large group of people, or surely you wouldn’t go up in the first place. That’s my theory anyway! The program last night indicated that some people can be egged to go up, but again that is their ultimate choice - only a foolish person would allow themselves to go up on stage against their will. It is not right o hypnotise people who have been drinking, either.

The stage hypnotist only chooses people whom he knows will go along with things and also those who are very highly suggestible and go into hypnosis very easily. He does a series of tests to establish the best subjects from the group and sends the others away.

They are indeed in hypnosis, but it is very loaded in the stage hypnotist’s favour. Therapy is not like this at all. Most people don’t go so deeply that they can walk about in it. Only about 5% of the population can do this. It is called somnambulism and you do know what you’re doing, although the mind may block it for a time.

Hypnosis itself is harmless and is indeed a very beneficial form of deep relaxation. However, please be aware that the mind can allow dormant feelings to be brought to the surface in order to be dealt with. A stage hypnotist has no idea of the deeper rooted problems his subjects might have, and would have no contact afterwards to deal with any leaks of internal feelings.

We none of us know what lurks within Pandora’s box. Only ever work with a qualified therapist when using hypnosis, even just to stop smoking. They would know exactly how to deal with a spontaneous release of repressed or blocked off feelings, known as an abreaction. Feelings have always been blocked off for a reason - often as a defence mechanism  in childhood, when you don't have the ability or experience to deal with such hurtful feelings, such as rejection, constant criticism or disappointment.

Adults also block off feelings, but usually they learned to do so in childhood. The only way to release feelings is to feel them and express them. This can be painful, but not nearly so painful as holding on to them for years. Repressed feelings destroy people's lives and cause much emotional illness.

In therapy you are in a situation of mutual respect, or should be. At no time should you be given suggestions of a negative nature, all the work should be aimed at creating a positive future and outcome for you. All that is said and done is for your Highest Good and for the Greater Good of all people that you come into contact with. You should be encouraged to simply BE YOURSELF ! That is all that is ever needed in this life. When we try top live our lives through someone else's eyes we can never be happy.

Therapy is best done in a supportive and in an interactive way, as you will have hopefully chosen a therapist who will learn from you, too. Always make sure your therapist is qualified to do what they say they will do. It is a joint venture and you are playing an active part in your own healing, hence – ACTIVE HEALING!

For a properly trained hypnotherapist contact the National Register for Hypnotherapists and psychotherapists on www.nrhp.co.uk email nrhp@btconnect.com or 'phone them on 01282 716839 for a bigger pool of trained therapists.

Only full members are listed on the website, but you could find a very good Associate member closer to your home or more on your wavelength, as everyone works differently. Always try to have a good chat before you decide on who to visit for therapy.
